Bug in currency exchange?
My default currency is SGD and I have some mutual funds in IDR (Indonesian Rupiah). I created a Stocks & Shares account in Strabo and entered the numbers. I skipped the ticker simbol because Strabo cannot find my mutual funds, then click Save. The resulting balance of this account on the dashboard (in SGD) is wrong. Maybe it's a currency change bug.
Also, if I go to the edit window for this account, it seems like Strabo tries to find an asset with ticker symbol IDR (whatever that is).
Hey Andre,
Thanks for raising this - at present, you can only add manual stocks for those companies where the ticker is searchable. We use an external data provider called MarketStack for stock price data. You can find the full list of stocks here: https://marketstack.com/search
Unfortunately when the ticker isn't in this list, there isn't yet an option to add the stock. So what happens is that when the ticker is blank, the system adds a unit of your base currency instead. There are two things we're working on to improve this:
We have had a few instances of people not finding stocks on MarketStack lately, so we are moving to a new provider in the coming weeks which should have a more comprehensive list.
We will be redoing the manual accounts system so that you can add stocks without a ticker, add multiple stocks in one go, and provide more information about these so that we can reconcile them more accurately.
Hope this goes some way to answering your question. Please stay tuned for further updates
Does this also affect cryptocurrency? I was trying to manually add some mock cryptocurrency holdings to test the platform's features and received this message: "An unexpected error occurred, please refresh the page and try again. If the issue persists, please request support."
We've actually just changed to a new provider that uses Google Finance so that we have better coverage, and this allows you to add cryptocurrency too. This will be built into a manual crypto option but for now you can add manual stock and select the crypto exchange rate you want in the format BTC:USD. We've written a short guide on this here but if you want any further information, please email ben@strabo.app
